Super Threats: How to Sound Like a Lawyer and Get Your Rights on Your Own
ASIN: 0892560150

Customer's Rating: 5
Summary: Poor man's answer for protecting his Rights.
Comments: "Super Threats" is the poor man's answer to fighting back. When I first heard about this book I had just lost some money to some one promising me they could get me a homr equity loan. But I had to put some money up front to "process" the paper work. After getting this book and reading it I decided to launch my own "Super Threat" to try and see if I could get all or part of my money back. Following the books instructions to the letter I sent a letter in the format outlined in the book. I even went out and got the "Certified Mail" stamps with the certified number so I could put that number in my letter. One of the tips in the book. Within four days I not only got my all my money back, I got a great letter of apolagy from the CEO of the company. Need I say more?

Fraud:

The Art of the Steal: How to Protect Yourself and Your Business from Fraud, America's #1 Crime
ASIN: 0767906845

Customer's Rating: 5
Summary: Informative follow-up to "Catch Me If You Can"
Comments: "Art of the Steal" is an informative book from master confidence man Frank Abagnale. It begins as a sequel to Abagnale's "Catch Me If You Can" (filling in the years between the end of the first book and Abagnale's reinvention as a fraud-prevention guru), and quickly becomes a sort of reference book and strategy guide, enumerating numerous prevalent financial scams, and describing sensible techniques for preventing fraud. Abagnale speaks at length about check, credit-card and ATM fraud, counterfeit designer apparel and consumer goods, Internet-based fraud, and security features of modern U.S. currency. The book is well-organized, with plenty of anecdotes throughout (the most entertaining is a phone scam in which somebody uses a 1-900 area code to achieve dubious results). Overall, "Art of the Steal" is not quite as much fun as "Catch Me If You Can", but it's an admirable effort nonetheless. This is a more business-minded book, where you'll find lots of good information, if it's the sort of information you're looking for.

The Fraud Identification Handbook
ASIN: 096691600X

Customer's Rating: 4
Summary: very informative
Comments: I am a investigator for the U.S. gov't. This book is very informative. The book I believe, is not meant to be read cover to cover. Instead it is more like a ref. guide to all types of fraud. Very good book. I'm glad I have this in my library.

Traffic Tickets:

Traffic Ticket Defense
ASIN: 1566250250

Customer's Rating: 5
Summary: Get this Book!
Comments: If you have been issued a ticket then get this book. It will help you prepare and win in court. If you haven't got a ticket yet, definitly get this book; then you will know what to say and do before you get pulled over. This will make winning in court much easlier. I have read four other books on this subject and this one is the best hands down. This book has saved me from getting a ticket by knowing what to say: ie "I was following the flow of traffic". The cop wasn't happy with me, but since I was following him, he didn't write me. If I haven't read this book, I would probably admitted to speeding and tried to talk my way out of it. That wouldn't(and hasn't) worked. But knowing what to say caused the officer not to write me; Not because he didn't want too, he just know I would win in court. I wasn't admitting anything. PS: I like cops. I have had friends who were cops, but I don't like that they are forced into writing unneeded tickets by local governments who just want to raise money! If they don't write enough tickets, they lose federal highway funds and state funds. The police are told to write x number of tickets are their budget will be cut.

Beating the Radar Rap: Tested Techniques for Fighting Electronic Speed Entrapment, and Winning
ASIN: 0933893892

Customer's Rating: 5
Summary: GOT A RADAR SPEEDING TICKET? THEN BUY THIS BOOK RIGHT NOW!
Comments: It is obvious that the safety nannies and police officers have given this book zero stars, since they like to see people get ticketed. The more tickets that are issued the more $$$ flows in their direction. If you want to have your speeding ticket dismissed or humilate the cop in court, then BUY THIS BOOK! It's got lots of questions to ask the cop and it's really easy to understand. I bought this book based on the recommendations of the other reviews and boy am I glad I did! I got my ticket thrown out of court and I made the cop look like an idiot in court. He didn't know anything about how his radar works. Anyway, BUY THIS BOOK and you'll get your ticket dismissed too!

Landlords and Tenants:

California Tenants' Rights (California Tenants' Rights, 14th Ed)
ASIN: 0873375203

Customer's Rating: 4
Summary: The book to have if your landlord is a jerk.
Comments: If your landlord is a jerk and you want to know what he (or she) can legally do or not do, this book will help. It will also give you some idea of when to go for professional help. It is of less help in figuring out what to do before you have to bring in the lawyers. I found it very helpfull to leave this book on the coffee table when my nosy landlord was snooping around my apartment. Apparently bad landlords don't like it when tenants know their rights.

On Your Side: Protecting Your Mental Health Practice from Litigation
ASIN: 0970998201

Customer's Rating: 5
Summary: Forewarned is forearmed
Comments: You may think you are protected from wrongful accusations by clients, but this book demonstrates that in most cases you are not. I didn't know anything about such matters until a dear friend and colleague was unjustly accused, and unfortunately didn't have the help of this book. What she went through damaged not only her ability but her desire to continue making her living as a therapist. I stopped doing custody cases after I saw what happened. ON YOUR SIDE is the best -- perhaps the only -- source of step-by-step help for embattled practitioners. I'm grateful to have found it and have been telling every therapist I know. If you find yourself on the spot, this book will explain the intricacies of the system and advise you step-by-step on the best practical (and psychological) ways to defend yourself. But please, don't wait until it happens!

ASIN: 0517885182

Damages: One Family's Legal Struggles in the World of Medicine
ASIN: 0684807696

Customer's Rating: 5
Summary: I am recomending this to my associates. And my mom
Comments: I spend a great deal of time as a defense lawyer explaining how the system works-- to the associates in my office, to clients, to lawyers from outside the US. "Damage" is going to find its way into a lot of these discussions, and everyone who works for me is going to read it. I am also going to send a copy to my mom.Barry Wirth's book is impressive for the way it gets the law stuff (and the medicine too, I think) mostly dead on, but beyond that, this is also a great read, with interesting, well drawn characters that one ends up caring about. In many ways,"Damage" is a better book than"A Civil Action", which it resembles. The legal tactics are explained, rather than merely used to illustrate the flamboyance of the attorneys. More importantly, the case itself, a so-called "bad bab" case concerning the catastrophic injuries sustained as a result of claimed medical malpractice, is something anyone who reads a daily newsp! aper will be able to relate to. The book gives the best picture I have ever seen of how patients become clients, how prospective clients are screened by law firms, how discovery strategies are developed, how cases are evaluated (by both sides) and how settlements are negotiated. I could teach a course around this, and, in fact, I just might.I recommend this book to anyone who has ever wondered how the damage awards they read about in news reports were arrived at, or thought about what the human consequences of a serious injury might be.

Excellent, practical advice.

Customer's Rating: 5
Summary: This book belongs in every community leader's tool box
Comments: Having been involved in a politically driven issue that threatened the serenity and security of my neighborhood and having to do battle with a variety of special interests, I can honestly say this book is a "how to" with substance.

Summary: I Highly Recommend This Book To All
Comments: This is the best book on invention marketing that I have ever read. It is compulsively readable; deliciously explored. This book is of interest and help to more than just inventors.

Rembrandts in the Attic: Unlocking the Hidden Value of Patents
ASIN: 0875848990

Customer's Rating: 5
Summary: Must Reading for Entrepreneurs, Inventors, and Managers
Comments: Spellbinding. I laughed. I wept. How could Xerox PARC miss a $500,000,000 patent opportunity in the graphical user interface? Easy, they didn't recognize that someone else might have a use for something they had no use for. Yes, I laughed and I cried.

Patents and How to Get One: A Practical Handbook
ASIN: 0486411443

Customer's Rating: 4
Summary: Nice Reference
Comments: This book is nice reference for people who want to learn more about the patent process. For prospective inventors, this book details the steps one needs to take in order to apply for a patent. If you are serious about applying for a patent, I would not recommend using this book as a sole reference, but as a starting point.

Will It Sell? How to Determine If Your Invention Is Profitably Marketable (Before Wasting Money on a Patent)
ASIN: 0967649404

Customer's Rating: 5
Summary: Prepare Yourself for the Real World of Invention
Comments: "Will It Sell?" is deap reading for the "idea person" who thought that there was a pot of gold waiting at the end of the "good idea rainbow." James E. White, author, tells you like it is--he doesn't mince words. He digs out every fact and every reason why your inventive idea can "fail," but he hopes that you will be the one-in-one-hundred-inventors whose invention won't fail.. He will be your mentor. When Jim explains a fact and each step to follow, you get the feeling that he is looking over your shoulder, correcting and helping you in your every move. "This is the book." If you think reading it is tough, then don't become an inventor. He'll tell you "how to get there," with every reference on each of the 300 pages. And he shows, like no other author, that if you fail on any one stage, don't even think about averaging-out the stages of invention to Pass. He tells the truth-- "No one said it would be easy." -- Who am I to tell you about "Will It Sell?" -- only the President of the Inventors Association of St. Louis, a large inventors' helping organization founded in 1984, that augmented in 1990 the United Inventors Association of the USA - which has over 3000 members. That's who! BUY THE BOOK - "WILL IT SELL"

Inventing Made Easy: The Entrepreneur's Indispensable Guide to Creating, Patenting & Profiting from Inventions
ASIN: 0966506979

Customer's Rating: 4
Summary: Practical and frank
Comments: The authors give a broad description of the patent process, as well as tips and considerations to market the developed ideas. Other interesting topics include the basics of marketing and bussiness development. I particularly like the poignant remarks on the reality of patent laws, which are designed to protect the rich and powerful instead of the poor and average; expect to be dissapointed if you do not have the money to sue someone for infringing your ideas.

How to Make Patent Drawings Yourself: Prepare Formal Drawings Required by the U.S. Patent Office
ASIN: 0873377885

Customer's Rating: 5
Summary: Do It Right - Do It Yourself - And Save Money!
Comments: On the last couple of patent applications I submitted, I ended up doing 90% of the drawings myself because it turned out to be easier than continuously having to correct the mistakes of the draftsman. My attorney said that my drawings just needed to be shaded and cleaned up a bit, and have the legends applied, but otherwise what ended up going into the applications was essentially my drawings with a few more bells and whistles. His draftsman had just put them on a light table and copied them as is. But I still had to pay for the drawings! This book was able to get me the rest of the way there by detailing the regulations that the USPTO puts on drawings. They're not really difficult, but they ARE specific. Don't be intimidated by them. The very simple drawing style specified by the USPTO is to allow clear reproduction and printing. My attorney charges $295 per figure, and one page can have 2 or 3 figures on it! The last application we submitted had about a dozen figures total. Some of the expense is the work of integrating and describing the drawings, but it is guaranteed to save you money if you do your own drawings. Besides, this ensures that you will be satisfied with the quality and accuracy. Don't forget you can also have the draftsman do the difficult 3-D "Figure 1" bit, and you do the simpler stuff. Like me, I'll bet you'll find it easier than you thought!

The Public Domain: How to Find and Use Copyright-Free Writings, Music, Art & More (Public Domain, 1st Ed)
ASIN: 0873374339

Customer's Rating: 5
Summary: One of the most useful books I have ever encountered
Comments: This fat and informative book is a goldmine for anyone interested in public domain works, whether writings, music, art, films or just about anything else. The author, Attorney Stephen Fishman, begins with an examination of copyright laws and the public domain. After that, the book begins each of the chapters on copyrightable materials with a handy checklist for use in determining public domain status, and then launches into a discussion of how to determine the public domain status of such an item. After those useful chapters, the author examines the use of copyrighted and public domain works. This is one of the most useful books I have ever encountered. It contains most everything you need to know in determining the public domain status of a work, and it is organized in a simple, easy-to-use format (ala the ___ for Dummies books), that is sure to inform the reader, and never lose him or her. I highly recommend this book to anyone interested in whether or not something is in the public domain, and thus open to free use.
